Rachal's Story

Rachal Gort, formerly Rachal Botma, is not just a name on the Grant Public School Board; she embodies a lifelong dedication to the welfare of her community and the advancement of education. Since her election in 2018, Rachal's service on the board has demonstrated unwavering commitment, from trustee to treasurer, and now as vice president. Despite challenges, she remains steadfast in upholding the district's values.

Raised in Grant, Rachal's roots in the community run deep. As a mother of five, she is not only professionally but personally invested in the district, guiding her children through their educational journeys while actively volunteering in classrooms and coaching youth basketball for many years.

Beyond her board duties, Rachal wears several other hats: wife, successful photography business owner, and Marketing and Communications Director for a nationwide non-profit affiliate. Her diverse experiences highlight her ability to balance roles while serving her community.

Rachal's vision for the district is anchored in conservative values and an unwavering commitment to educational excellence. She advocates for an environment free from external influences, prioritizing fundamental skills and ensuring school safety. Importantly, she opposes any efforts to introduce sexual orientation preferences to minors, emphasizing the importance of preserving childhood innocence.

Rachal's commitment to her role as a school board member extends beyond her day-to-day responsibilities. She actively pursues professional development opportunities to enhance her understanding of school operations and education law. Through the Michigan Association of School Board Members (MASB), Rachal has completed classes and achieved Level 2 Board Certification, earning an Award of Merit for her dedication and achievement.

Through MASB's Board Member Certification (CBA) program, Rachal has developed new skills, stayed up-to-date on educational issues, and earned recognition for her growth as a school board member. Her pursuit of certification demonstrates her willingness to go above and beyond in her service to the Grant Public School District and the community as a whole. Rachal's dedication to ongoing learning and professional development underscores her commitment to excellence and her desire to make informed, impactful decisions for the benefit of students, families, and staff.
